I limewashed the brick

We talked about limewashing the brick from the day we bought the house in 2013. I hated that brick. Ugly. Not updated. We would drive through Bethesda and Georgetown and I would see smaller homes with lime paint and the brick peeking through. History and age. I wanted that. I think I had just gotten back from South Carolina and I was still on that kick.

Every time I brought it up, my husband said we could table the discussion. Okay.

Then he left for a four-day work conference. My son was sick, so he stayed inside watching TV and I watched him through the window. In Rockville I only had the garage and the front. I never did the chimney. I am afraid of the roof. I finished in a day and a half. People asked for my painter’s number. I told them I did it. They asked if I would paint theirs. I said no. I am not a house painter.

He came home. I said surprise. He said, oh, I thought we were going to talk about this later. We did. There was no decision, so I went for it. He loves it. He never doubted my ability to design again.

Have you ever tabled a house idea and then just done it anyway?
