I am a bit perplexed over the "door shutter" craze of these older 1960's split-level homes. The shutters are not functional, nor attractive. It had to be done...it had to be done by me the very first day.
Of course, there are still things that need fixing with this door. The previous owner gave the impression of an oak or solid wood door. Not the case at all.
This door has a faux - wood grain to make it look like real wood from a distance. However, on closer examination it appears the door is made of some plastic-steel hybrid. Tonight I am going to Home Depot for paint for another project, but I have a feeling that I will be taking home either black or red paint as well.
The long term goal is to put some nice crown molding and better door trim around it. Yet, as I noted in my previous posting, my husband and I went above our comfort zone (slightly) with this particular home. As such, I am trying to only address simple and inexpensive fixes until I have more money coming.
Speaking of which...go to my Shop for some cutesy home decor. Shameless plug...Also check out my furniture posts. I am located in the DC Metroplex if you are interested in checking out my mixed media approach to furniture rehabbing.
